MC’s Song Of The Week #24: “BLOW” by Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton, & Bruno Mars

Hello, I’m MusiCommentator, for my 24th edition of Song Of The Week, I will be discussing “BLOW” by Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton, and Bruno Mars.

“BLOW” was one of the final singles released for Ed’s album “No.6 Collaborations Project”, which I just finished listening to (at the time of me writing this), and it was fairly decent.  It was very hit-or-miss, which I expected going into it, but the songs that hit really hit hard.  Most of the songs’ quality is dependent on the guests, so of course there are duds spread across the album.  Ed’s lyrics are pretty predictable, as most of them would fit on any of his other albums, but the instrumental experimentation keeps the audience on its toes.  On first listen, I’d probably rate this album somewhere between a 6 and a 6.5 out of 10.  Enough of the album, though.  Let’s talk about my favorite song from the album, “BLOW”!

Now a year ago, if you were to tell me that an indie-popstar, a country artist, and an R&B singer were to join forces to make a real rock n’ roll song in 2019, I’d probably ask what drugs you were on and ask if I could have some.  However, that is exactly what happened, and while in theory this song sounds like it would be a mess, it’s actually pretty damn amazing!  Like I said, this is a pure rock n’ roll song, so the instrumentals are incredible.  The drums, bass, guitar, and everything else blend together well to make a song that sounds like it was released simultaneously in the 1980’s and 2010’s.  There’s even a kickass guitar solo, which is something you rarely hear nowadays.  The artists also have amazing chemistry.  Surprisingly, all the artists involved sound at home over this beat.  They all have shocking amounts of charisma that let them ride over the instruments with charm and ease.  The lyrics are pretty stereotypical for rock, but like I said, it’s the delivery that makes this song what it is!  If you don’t want to listen to this whole album–which I would not blame you for–then I at least recommend you check out this track.  You won’t be disappointed!
