MC’s Song Of The Week #21: “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be a Long Time)” by Elton John

Hello, I’m MusiCommentator, and for my 21st Song Of The Week, I will be discussing “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be a Long Time)” by Elton John.

As you could probably guess, I recently saw the new “Rocketman” movie out in theaters, and that is why I am making this my Song Of The Week.  Digressing a little, I really liked the movie (but I like pretty much all movies so maybe that isn’t saying much).  The way they told his life in a musical way was very abstract, and I believe it fit his character well.  But, let’s talk about the song “Rocket Man” instead of centering on the movie.

This is one of those incredibly classic songs, so I’m not sure if there’s much else I can say about this that hasn’t already been said, but I find this to be Elton John’s best song.  The guitars, piano, and soft drums come together to make a pleasing instrumental that fits with the vibe of the song.  Elton’s smooth voice also works insanely well over this relaxed backing track.  The lyrics are the most obscure part of the track, as they talk about the daily ventures of an astronaut.  Call it a more approachable version of “Space Oddity”, if you will (which I should totally do a Song Of The Week on in the future).  The chorus is obviously the best part, and it’s easy to sing along to at this point.  It flows so well with the song and really makes this track special.  So, you should go listen to this song and see the movie because both are pretty great.

Thank you for reading my 21st “Song Of The Week”!  If you liked this post, make sure to follow my website, Twitter, and Instagram, like this post, and be sure to check in soon for future content.  Also, if you have something you want to see me review, tell me in the comments.  Until then, keep on listening to good music! I know I will.
