UNDERGROUND SHOUTOUT: Shatown’s “Circles”

Hello, I’m MusiCommentator, and I’ve got another awesome UNDERGROUND SHOUTOUT for you all today, this time focusing on “Circles” by Shatown.

Shatown is a singer and rapper from Buffalo, NY who just released an album titled “Infidelities”.  The album focuses on the many aspects of love, looking at both the good and bad of this elusive emotion.  “Circles”, one of the best songs of the album, leans toward the negative side of love, as the track showcases a turbulent relationship.  The song starts off with a skit showing a couple on the brink of a breakup, yelling that they hate each other.  This gives the listener insight as to what the song will focus on.  Once the beat starts, it immediately drags you in with the large bass hits and spacey synth lead.  Shatown’s singing voice fits in with this perfectly, as her airy tones help convey the heartbreak she is experiencing throughout the track.  She also has a decent rap verse, but I find her singing voice to be the shining attraction of this track.  It works perfectly for the type of R&B she is experimenting with, which has both old-school and new-school elements within it.  All in all, this stands as a pretty good track with a nice, trap-flavored R&B beat and smoldering vocals that work perfectly at portraying the raw emotions of the lyrics presented.
