MC’s Song Of The Week #4: “You Say” by Lauren Daigle

Hello, I’m MusiCommentator, and usually I don’t like to do two “Song Of The Week” posts in a row, but my next post will be my one hundredth one, and I have something very special planned for it, so I just had to put one of these posts here to fill in the space since I didn’t have a song review ready.  Anyways, this week’s song is “You Say” by Lauren Daigle.

I was shown this song by a friend recently, and I found myself fond of it on first listen.  Then he said to me, “I see you do a lot of hip-hop and pop on your blog, why don’t you put any Christian music on there?”  So, for that reason, I decided to make this my song of the week.

While I do find some (and by that I mean very few) Christian music to be monotonous, this song is far from it, as Lauren’s impassioned vocals work well over the powerful instrumentals.  I especially love those choral shouts in the hook; those get me every time.  In the lyrics, Lauren talks about her experience with God, telling how He helped her out of a broken place and how she wants to live her life for Him.  The Christian themes of this song are very much embedded in the lyrics, but for those who aren’t religious, this song works as a good motivational track, as the positive affirmations mentioned in the chorus could uplift anyone, specifically when sung with the power that Lauren brings to this song.

Thank you for reading my fourth “Song Of The Week”!  If you liked this post, make sure to follow my website, Twitter, and Instagram, like this post, and be sure to check in soon for future content.  Also, if you have something you want to see me review, tell me in the comments.  Until then, keep on listening to good music! I know I will.
