Hello, I’m MusiCommentator, and for my second “Song Of The Week”, I’m going to be talking about J.I.D.’s “Tiiied”.
J.I.D. released “DiCaprio 2” last year, which is a great album. I really wanted to put it on my Top 10 BEST Albums Of 2018 list, but I had only listened to the album once by the time I started writing the list, so I didn’t have much to say about it, and I didn’t want to jump the gun knowing that my feelings could easily change on the album with a few more listens. Since I can’t talk about that album anymore, though, I might as well talk about my favorite song off it, or at least the song I’ve listened to the most off the album, “Tiiied”.
“Tiiied” focuses on the struggling relationships the artists face on this, and everything about the song comes together so nicely. The instrumentals contain somber synths that are neatly accented by guitars and drums which keep the energy of the track high. J.I.D. shows off his skills of making a compelling story, as he describes a scene of him and his girl fighting at a movie theater and making a scene, eventually leading to the girl leaving without him. 6LACK portrays a different side of the situation, as he seems more willing to let go of his girl than J.I.D. is, but his pain can still by found in his silky smooth singing and soft vocal modulations. Ella Mai also comes in at the end, adding to the themes of the track and rounding the song off with some nice singing. While it might not be everyone’s favorite track off “DiCaprio 2”, it’s a track I have found myself going back to way too much, so I had to make it this week’s “Song Of The Week”.
