(NEW SERIES!!!) UNDERGROUND SHOUTOUT: Josh Marko’s “Kitchen Hustle”

Hello, I’m MusiCommentator, and I’ve been a music blogger for under a year now.  I’ve garnered around 75 followers by the time of me writing this, and while some of my posts have gotten a couple to a few hundred views, I would not call myself famous by any means.  No, I’m not trying to elicit sympathy or anything, I’m just stating facts.  But I’m also saying this because, even being the small reviewer that I am, I have gotten multiple DMs already from aspiring artists wanting me to listen to their music.

I’m assuming that there is some sort of magical quota that music reviewers reach when they get some followers, but I have already had a few people come into my Twitter and Instagram sending me links to songs for self-promotion.  I’m guessing most music reviewers would be frankly annoyed by random musicians popping into their DMs, but I sprouted a great idea from it.  What if I listened to these songs I got sent and, if I liked them, I could write about them on this blog?  The musician will get more publicity, I will be able to share good music with you guys, and both parties will gain more followers.  As Michael Scott from “The Office” would call it, it’s a win-win-win situation.

Now, if you read my last post, I stated that I would probably not be posting for two weeks.  I got the idea for this new series the day after I posted that, so I guess you could call me a liar.  But, I plan this new series to contain short posts.  I will talk about the songs I show in a paragraph or two, like the song blurbs I use in my album reviews, with a link for the song at the end.  This way, I can post these whenever I want and get more content out to my loyal followers.  Already this is probably longer than most “Underground Shoutouts” will be.  So, yeah, call me a liar, but you’re all getting more stuff, so watch what you say.

Enough of this expository stuff!  Let’s talk about Josh Marko’s “Kitchen Hustle”.

Josh Marko is a DJ/Producer who came into my Twitter DMs with this song.  The song sounded pretty interesting, so I listened to it, and I was not too disappointed.  For all electronic lovers, “Kitchen Hustle” is a House song with some dark trap influences.  The drum patterns on this song intrigued me the most.  I was able to hear at least three different layers of drums, and each one worked seamlessly with the next.  There is also a deep, almost anthemic bass that can be heard throughout the background of the song in some parts that gives some great buildup to the song.

The only complaint I would have is that it is a tad too long, but that does not affect my enjoyment of it all.  Overall, this song reminded me of a modern version of “It’s Time For Da Perculator”, which I see as a classic dance hit that is great to enjoy every once in a while.  If you are a House fan, I would check out this song.

Thank you for reading my first “Underground Shoutout”. If you liked this new segment, make sure comment about it, and don’t forget to follow my website, Twitter, and Instagram, like this post, and be sure to check in to read my future reviews. Also, if you have something you want to see me review, tell me in the comments. Until then, keep on listening to good music! I know I will.

  2. As you can probably guess, artists and bands reaching out to me with their music and wanting a review is the basis for most of my blog posts. I didn’t intend for my blog to turn out this way but I’ve basically become a music reviewer, as I get a continuous stream of requests.
